I'm looking at a 806 that has had a M&W turbo added. Will this cause any damage to the engine in time. I've been told the 806 and 1206 both run a 361 cubic inch engine with the diff. in power being a turbo. Wondering if the 1206 engine has any internal diff. to deal with extra stress from the turbo. Thanks for any reply.

I don't have the experience with the larger Farmalls and turbos but did work for JD for a number of years. On there 30 series of tractors, (4230, 4430, 4630) these had the same basic engine but the 44 and 46 had turbos. The crankshaft was stronger on the turbo tractors as well as some other modifications to take the extra stress. I have also seen a number of 4020s and even 4010s with after market turbos. I think they worked fine as long as you didn't push them too hard. I suspect even though the 806 and 1206 had the same size engine there were differences to compensate for the turbo as as the other post said you get somethign between an 806 and 1206.

I just asked this question a little while ago, as we just bought an 826 with an M&W. The basic answer I got is that an aftermarket setup will never be as good as a factory setup, as there are internal differences between non-turbo and factory-turboed engines. The 826 we bought has 8,000 hrs and as far as I can tell that turbo has been on there a long time, and the engine still runs great. The thing you need to remember is that 806, 826, and 856 had some of the toughest engines ever built, and if you take care of them they will last forever, even with the M&W. So I guess the answer is they can be good and bad. To answer the second part of your question, I do know that the 1206 has jets that shoot cool oil at the bottom of the piston, while the 806 dose not.

My neighbors have been red for 40 years or more. They bought another 806 about 10 years ago. The first thing they did was put M&W turbo set up on it. They never have any trouble with it. Been a good tractor to them. It doesnt do heavy primary tillage tho....mowing, pulling wagons etc.
Most of the issue is what you want to do with it.
Ramrodding and rough operators will be hard on anything. Regardless of if it has a turbo or not.
Common sense goes ALONG way.
