Well guys and girls...you've done it ! You've converted me to RED. I've been reading this board for awhile, a visitor from the 9N, 2N & 8N board. I went out last night and looked at a 1950 "C" with a frozen engine, which I now own.....I need it like I need another hole in the head ! Now all I gotta do is figure out how I'm going to get it the 154 miles home and where I'm going to put it when I get it here.
Dozens of questions will follow !

For me it was that the Farmall H and M,s look like what a tractor should look like.
The guy that redesighned the Farmall back in 1939 hit the nail right on the head.
When the 1st H came out all that could be said was.
" This IS a tractor"

Well, I have been working on an 8N for a guy..... .I appreciate my Red power each time I crawl into the seat after working on that Ferd..... The C will spoil you!

Blame it on me, I take it as a compliment..... Fords mini-me tractors are 300% over-rated IMO..... .

Be carefull working around these old farmalls. I always liked working on and using the `N Fords. Then one day saw a Farmall 400 setting out for sale and bought it. Been working on that tractor now for about two years and have it running fair. However, do not own Fords anymore. Both of the Fords I had have been replaced with Farmalls--an H and C.

Gary,
I'd be glad to help if you're in my neck of the woods... Nicholas County.
Anything for the cause!

Thanks Bill !

First question....I have the I&T Shop Service Manual IH 8....
Is there a better book?

I'll tell you a little about the tractor....It looks like it has been taken pretty good care of.....metal is good on the hood and tank...grill is so-so....looks like it has been bent sideways, maybe brushed with another machine or something.
Rear rims look pretty darn good with one new tire....which happens to be the only one not up. The guy said it had a slow leak and would stay up for several days.
I looked the machine over....looking for cracks and weld etc..... couldn't find any or repaired damage.
Everything seems to be complete as near as I can tell, except I'm not totally sure about the hitch parts etc....it has a single draw bar out the back.
Things I did notice in addition to the stuck engine..... .I think there is suppose to be a band around and over the generator brushes....guy has that covered up with a plactic jug of some kind.....the battery box is an industrial yellow color and is in good shape except there is no lid. The steering has some play in it, part of which is the universal that is in the bend at the bottom of the seering wheel rod. Steering wheel is by no means good, I have seen a lot worse. There is 2 springs attached to the brake pedals (return springs?) that will have to be replaced.....All in all...I thought it looked pretty decent and appears that it has been kept inside for most of it's life.
Oh yeah...one other thing that is missing is the pulley at the PTO.
I'm sure that I will find a lot of things when I get it home.

I can't comment on the I&T manual. The only one I've seen was for my Dad's 8N. I got a reproduction shop manual for my A, and have the original owners manual. I've found that the pictures help more than anything, for me. The parts guy at White's Farm Supply was good enough to fax me exploded diagrams when ordering parts before I got the shop manual. I'l like to have the full parts book.
Good luck on you project. I look forward to having a C or SC in another year.

Thanks Bill !
I guess I need to find where the IH/CAse dealer is around here..... I have no idea at present.
Pictures would be nice..... .since I'm not really that familar with Farmalls....I mean...I've seen them around, but there aren't really any close by that I know of....This is Ford country as far as old tractors are concerned.

If there isn't any floods etc between now and morning, my neighbor and I are heading out to get my new toy tomorrow.

I picked up a gallon of PB Blaster for the stuck pistons..... I've read a lot of post and everyone seems to swear by it.
I'm real optimistic

I call White's Farm Supply up in New York. They are fast and accurate; I can order parts on Monday and get them on Wednesday by UPS. One of the owners posts frequently on the Compact Tractor Board and they advertise on that forum; so I gave them a try (I also don't know where the nearest IH dealer is).
My Dad and his neighbor unstuck an H. They let it soak in kerosene for a few weeks, and then put it in gear and rolled it back and forth. The neighbor has offered to give me the H now that I have my A resto just about done. I need to build another tractor shed.
