Have a 350 Utility that started pegging the ammeter completely to the charging side. The wiring harness was in pretty bad shape, so I installed a new one. I also decided in install a new ammeter while I was at it. The voltage regulator is fairly new(3 years) so I wouldnt think thats what the problem is, but isnt that pretty much the only thing it can be? I know all the new wiring is connected correctly. The ammeter wouldnt peg at charge if the battery was a little low would it?
Thanks

Mike - Probably a bad voltage regulator. Pull the wire off the "F" terminal at the regulator with the motor running. If the ammeter drops to near 0 or shows a small discharge the regulator is at fault. If it still charges hard there's either a short in the wiring between the regulator and the generator or else a problem inside the generator.
