My son just finished his Farmall 400. He painted using PPG OMNI 71310 as suggested on this site and by the dealer. The problem is that it's too orange looking. Didn't notice 'til he showed it against others painted with Case paint. Question, did the paint store mix wrong or is the new Case paint not the correct for the Farmall. Not much I can do about it now & he won't repaint it but will do another red tractor soon.
Later,
Tim

I painted my F12 with Tisco paint, and was not impressed. When I painted my F20N I used the expensive PPG Concept, with a color I just picked from the chart. It seemed a little orange at first, but was really just a bit lighter than it should have been. I really liked the shine and durability of the good paint. I just bought a cub that was also painted in Tisco IH red, and it looks good at 10 ft, but up close looks bad. I plan to repaint it when the weather is better, and will use the expensive PPG Concept. I dont work my farmalls, so their appearance is important to me. For a work tractor, the cheap enamal is probably fine.

Should have mentioned that here in CT we have no IH dealers left, so getting Case/IH paint is not an option.

omni paint is ppg's economy paint. it will fade in about five years. i would highly recommend ih 2150 paint with napa 576 hardener with gloss. if you are an experienced painter the high priced paint will keep its shine longer but it will cost three or four times as much and if you don't do the preparation of the tractor just perfect the fancy paint will not adhere very well, like ford and gm vehicles of the mid eighties. the acrylic enamal from ih is very forgiving.

I noticed the same thing on my C, but only under florescent light and only on the cast -- chassis and engine. I don't notice it anymore, and will do the same thing again. As the post below says, the next batch may be different, depending on the guy who mixes it (mine doesn't know the difference between urethane and enamel) Mine is VERY close to the 2150 in spray cans that I used to touch up a couple od spots.

PPG has two codes, Internatuional Farm Tractor Red IH-2150 PPG 71310. The other is Intenational Red Lt. # 50 PPG 70019. I have exellent results with Case/IH paint and have not used PPG on my IH tractors.

I noticed a slight difference from the PPG and the stuff purchased from Case IH too. Heck, you'll notice the difference from one batch mixed to the next..

I have seen IH tractors painted with PPG or even Dupont paints, they do very in color. I paint quite a few tractors the only paint I will use on IH is 2150 case IH paint because the color is what your looking for in your finished product. I also clearcoat all the tractors that I paint. I put an American Finishes acrylic base Reducer [PBS100] in the red paint that turns it into a basecoat so you can clearcoat it. The durability & shine will last longer than just paint. I have a 1939 M and my brother has a early 560 diesel that are both painted this way and look very nice. Good luck to you

American finishes can be found at auot mate parts stores or you could find something similar at NAPA parts stores just thought it might help.
