I can't get my governer to work. I have bypassed it with a wire dirrectly to the carbarter to control the speed fast/slow. I assume there is a spring in the govner that should bring it back to idle. Any advice as to how to fix or what is wrong????? ???/

The govner system is fairly simple, get a service manual and it will lead you through the installation of a new spring which is probably the problem. Good luck.

CCJ, My guess is that your thrust bearings are bad, and or your governor spring is broken; easy fix. While you're in there, be sure to check the big bushing that the shaft turns in, make sure the weights are OK, and clean everything. Purchase a Parts book, Operators Manual, and IT manual, you should be able to do this for under $25-$30, and they will take you through it easily.
