How in the world do you get the flywheel removed from the crank off an F-20. I tried using a regular puller but it won't budge the flywheel. Any tips, help, etc.. would most be appreciated.

I used a very heavy duty three legged puller to remove mine. A 1/2 inch impact wrench and it was off in couple minutes. The cocner with pushing it off is that you will damage the bearings. Ball bearing do not like to be loaded in that direction. The key comes off with the flywheel. A regular gear puller will not handle the loads. Installation is much easier. Heat the flywheel on you gass grill to 200 degrees. Install a bolt in the pin. You will need three people to iunstall the flywheel. Two to slide the flyweel on and on to install the pin simulataneously. It will slide right on.

Ive done that three times, and it never gets any easier. First, pull the pin out using a hardened 3/8 bolt and a couple of bigger nuts under it. after that and the nut are out of the way, then the hard part starts. apparently, i h shops had a tool to use. you don't pull the flywheel off, you push it off using the 3 larger 1/2 inch or so holes arount the outsidde. find something really hard, i thinh head studs work and put it in the hole. cut it off so that you can get a bolt threaded in the hole and with the stud under it push agins the back of the motor.you will not be able to see what your doing, but trust yourself. you have to do all three holes this way at the same time and keep the flywheel straigt while comming off. use lots of heat and an impact wrench. this is hard and confusing, but i hope you'll get the idea. adam

I have discovered a great way to remove the flywheel from my 1939 f-20. First take the big nut and washer off the fly wheel. I invested in a 3 1/2" socket for my 1" drive ratchet. That made that part really easy. Next I cleaned out the threaded 5/8" dia holes. Then I put three threaded rods in them. I also took a plate of 5/16" thick steel and drilled holes in it the same pattern and the holes in the fly wheel. I bolted the plate on the end of the three threaded rods. Then I used a port-a-power and pushed the flywheel off by puting the port-a-power in between the crankshaft and the plate. Keep the port-a-power centered and make sure that the head of the port-a-power is about the same size and the crankshaft. I had my flywheel off in 5 min. with very little effort. I did not even have to remove the round key. It only took me three weeks to figure this out.

I don't want to sound stupid but you did get the fly wheel nut off correct. if so i would like to know how you go it off. there is a key way on the fly wheel did you check that.
