The late 806 tractors always fascinated me. The ones with the 18.4 by 38 tires and ten hole front hubs. Anyone have such a tractor out there? Not looking to buy one (yet) but just curious how many are out there. Don't recall seeing any 4020 Deere tractors with the 38 inch tires, they always had the 34's around here.

JD 4020's were available with optional 38 inch rubber. My father-in-law sold them in Central NY. One pops up now and then.

18.4X38 common, dont think you counted front hubs correctly, they had 6 bolt & 8 bolt on bigger tire, not 10 bolt, 6 & 8 were used into 50 series, early round tube cast axle, then last 50 series went to metric, all 8 bolt, same as 7110/8920,1660/2366.

You are right about the 8 hole hubs, not 10, I posted that at 3:45 am this morning and must have been half asleep. The early 806's around here had 34's, the late ones had the 38's but there were only a few late ones sold here.

JD - Our neighbor bought the first side console '69 4020-D Our local dealer got in.... Ordered out special in case he ever wanted to put a mounted corn picker on it(with a frt axle change-out)... It had 15.5 x 38's on the back and 10.00 x 16's on the WFE... After He bought the combine the 4020 got a cab & turbocharger... and then about a year or so later got the rims split to add 2" of width so the 18.4 x 38 BFG Radials could be put on....

I never recall seeing 18.4 by 38's as factory on 4020's but sure saw a lot with 34's, there are a few console 4020's here but all have 34's, don't know if Deere even offered 18.4 by 38's on the 4020, Denny.

Your 806 is '66 and your 706 is '64. I have a '63 806 with 18.4x34 on back and 6 bolt 15L11 on front, my '69 856 has 18.4x38 on rear and 6 bolt 16 x11.00 on front.

I don't think I have ever seen a late 806 either, ours had 23.1x34's on it with 18.4x34 band duals. Looked pretty mean with those big wide tires out back, and good flotation on the hay field.

I think ours was an early one because the tachometer was a black one without the speed reading.

Steven in 1969 we spread fertilizer for a man who had two late 806's and they were quite a tractor. Some of the differences were flat top fenders, smaller holes in the grille screen, longer hydraulic levers and as you stated the different tach, along with the 38 inch tires and 8 hole hubs with 10.00-16 tires. Those tractors he had were only a little over a year old and they were awesome. We didn't have the 1256 yet and I was sure impressed by those 806's, never will forget that spring.

Hi, Steven, have an 806 with 18.4X38 tires and the ten hole front hub, with sixteen inch wide front tires, also have two of the older ones with 18.4x34 tires on the back. All three, [diesels], are in running order, and meet their work load every year without hesitation. I pull a 4-16" Oliver plow, and a sixteen and half foot Oliver disc in sandy clay soil, with diamond harrows behind the disc. Also bale with an 850 NewHolland baler. Have quick-tach loaders for two of them to load the round bales for transport. Have never owned a better machine with such economical pulling power, and ease of handling. For their age, there are still a lot of them being used in this area. Have a gooder,R.E.L.
