The Wisconsin Historical Society is just starting to put some photos up on the web. They're watermarked, but still pretty good. These are a few of the interesting photos- we tried to have some fun with the first ones. Hit the search button, then go into the ag or transportation section (I'm not the one who devised the catagories). Some of the captions may need some work. Feel free to use the feedback button on the website. I like Nixon on the tractor myself.

I'll bet not too many people remember the notorious Ed Gein. Growing up in Central Minnesota in the '50's, that was the biggest story of 1957. I still remember most of the jokes that were going around about him and his meals.

Hi, Having trouble finding some photos of a Farmall B tractor in the 1939-'43 category so that we can figure out where to put new decals. Appreciate any suggestions of where to look. Oddly, the decal locations don't come with the decals. Go figure. Linda Monroe

Ed Gein was somewhat of a serial killer, who brought women back to his farm, skinned them out and ate them. There were stories that he also tanned the hides, made lamp shades out of them. I don't remember if this was true or not. He spent the rest of his life in an insane assylum. It's been said that when the cops came to pick him up, he said, "hey guys, have a heart"

Under Transportation, image 1855 (also in ag. cat.)
was taken at same time your cover picture to your data book was taken. Different person on tractor and shot from elevated position but.. windows & doors on buildings open\closed the same. Also items around barns (including dump truck) all appear same. (I expanded the images on a 19 inch monitor) Probably many photos taken in a staged session. Dated 1949. R.

I forgot to also mention when I enlarged both pictures for comparing, the air valve stem on rear tire is in same position for the two different people in drivers seat. Gotta be a parked tractor with many many different pictures ,and people, taken in one photo session. ralph

Would that make it Farmall One? Nice pictures! There is a picture at our Court House of someone harvesting Hemp using a McCormick binder. Hemp used to be real big around here, still is to put it bluntly. There used to be a rope factory out on Lexington Rd that made hawsers (sp?) for ships. I think Hemp is still the #1 cash crop for Clark County! Fireman

If you go into Recreation category(go figure) there is a photo of the little rascels with an International Harvester Cream Seperator. My aunt had one just like it but I never put 2 and 2 together to realize it was IH. They also list a bunch of historical stuff that IH has preserved but unfortunately doesn't say where. Might be a good spot for anybody who is interested to start backtracking.

The IH Archives are located at the Wisconsin Historical Society in Madison WI- I think that was your question.

It would be intereseting to know how the large tree stumps were pulled from the ground. Steam engines? I don't expect it was teams of horses as those are some mighty large tree stumps.

I like the pic of Nixon also. The picture of the 51 IH with pumpkins is also pretty good. Wish my 51 had the chrome strips like that one!

Thanks for sharing!

Steven
