Have a 400 that the ta don't work. Is it important for it to work? What is the purpose of it? I will use the tractor for disking a small 1/4a field. Is it hard to fix, cost, etc?

The ta parts will cost you under $100 if you split the tractor and rebuild the ta yourself. There are 8 little rollers, springs, and pins that go bad in them, most of the time. it is only about a 3 day project to split the tractor , rebuild, and put back together.

I have a Farmall 400 also and am in the process of fixing its TA. I'm getting a used one so it will only run me about $250, if I was to get a rebiult one your talking nothing under $400. the TA's purpose is to give you a greater range in gears a high and a low range. If your only using it for a 1/4 acre field you shouldnt have to replace it.
