Could someone please tell me why all my head studs seem to be too short? Just picked-up 2 of the longer ones from IH today and they seem short too. If I take them down to the bottom, there's not nearly enough left on top for the nut to grap onto and hold.

Getting close. Got the front cover on today, governor, and distributor, and have the bolster halfway in. Hopefully be starting her up soon, within the week.

Thanks,

Brian

Red-It could be the head You have is a higher compression head than originally on the tractor. I don,t know how much difference there is between the various castings but do know the valves are not interchangeble between the distillate and gas heads. Maybe someone else will give You a more knowledgeable answer.-John

John, I think that is exactly it. I believe this was an all-fuel when new, but the head it has on it is for straight gas. I can"t believe no one else has had this problem, couldn"t find anything on it in the archives.

Thanks,

Brian

Brian, I am in the process of installing, what I believe is a gasoline head, on a 1943 Kerosene H. I used all of the 6 1/8 inch studs and put washers under all of them. ARP makes studs that will work and for about 6 dollars a piece. I am unsure of what the head is exactly cause the casting numbers have been ground off, but the valves in it are for a gasoline head. Good luck. Melvin

Melvin,

Yep, none of my studs are 6", except the two new ones. I can't believe none of the super knowledgeable guys didn't catch this one right off.

My impatience is getting the better of me, I went ahead and ordered from IH for twice the cost, and less quality. Appreciate your advice though.

Painting pieces today waiting for parts tomorrow.

Thanks for the advice, much appriciated.

Thanks,

Brian
