My new to me 1951 M is now running nicely. There was blockage in one of the "worm holes" in the top part of the carb. i blew it out with a air compresser, then i checked each hole with a straw to see if i could pass air thru thru each of them. well when i put the air compresser to it $hit went flying and hit me in my face so i was hoping that was my problume. Put it back on and she runs good with no choke! I always had to run it with half choke before. It just needs some fine tunning now. when i really accelerate fast it wants to starve just a little so i need to adjust the carb to its sweet spot. I set the main 3 turns from seat and idle 1 turn from seat. Plus im gonna replace the plugs with d-19's instead of d-15's. i know some of you guys dont like champion plugs, but i never had a bad plug from them and they always seem to last as long as I expected. i know some people sand blast the tips but at 1.88 a plug i will just replace them. thank you to all that helped me out. I knew it has to be a carb problume. the gas must of sat for a lone time leaving behind a white powder crap that looked like sement! i will probally take it back off and let it sit in carb cleaner for a few days and then give it a good cleaning with the air compresser. plus since the orginal screen is missing from the carb i will put on another inline filter to keep the carb nice and clean. It don;t take much to make them carbs act up.

Rusty
i dont see hoe that cheep screen that falls apart after awhile can beat an inline filter? the inline filter would catch smaller pices of crud before the one on the carb could. i have a inline filter on one of my h's and the one on the carb too. after i added the inline filter six months later i took the screen out at the carb and it was cleen as could be....looked like new. And if my tractor is not missing how would auto lite or anyother plug make a diffrence? i could see if i had a miss or kept foulling plugs...but i havent. i have used auto lite champion mabey others. I personally cant tell the diffrence. mabey you can explaine why auto lite is much better?

Scrap that in-line filter and install the proper fuel inlet fitting with the attached screen. Those in-line filters can be a source of many problems, even when they are clean. Also, scrap the Champions. Get a set of Autolite 386s. There really is no comparison.
