Cub racing?

I have a '48 Farmall Cub. I was mowing with it the other day and the engine screamed and then stalled. I put more gas in it, fired it up and the engine was still raciing. the only way I can calm it down is by choking it. I don't think it's a timing issue because the starter sounds normal (not retarded or fast). is it something in the governor or could it be debris in the carb since it ran out of gas? Any help would be great!

i was very careful to not let it race to long but the RPMs were twice what it is at normal full throttle.

on a Cub there is a linkage behind the carb that connects the governor. If this is connected, it may be jambed. If not jambed, the governor will need to con\me apart. Do not let it scream. If it is just high Idle, As fast as when the throttle lever is open all the way, it may be the linkage to the governor from the control lever. JimN

Over reved Cub engines cam break the fan mount that is part of the front engine cover. That would cost alot as the radiator is sure to be sliced and diced.

The topic title brings up an interesting concept.

Do you suppose there will be any Cub racing at the RPRU? It is the featured tractor this year.

That's got to be one good reason for not going. Can you imagine having to look at row after row of one of the junkiest tractors IH ever built.

i don't have a old style cub but would buy one if it was priced right. i like the look of the cub. i think the 460 narrow looks silly.
