Thanks to all who have helped so far with my new M.
Another question... I can't seem to find any check valve or stick for trans fluid level. I do see the 3/4 inch plug on top of the housing, where your right foot would be. Also, there seems to be fluid leaking from where the right axle goes into the axle housing. Is this the famous felt seal I have heard about?

The seal is not felt, if original it is leather, if newer it is whatever they make them out of now (neoprene?), they all give up sooner or later. It may have a felt one on the outside as a dust shield, it's not supposed to stop oil. There is a pipe plug for checking the fluid on the left side of the transmission housing.

Sorry, I don't see it. When you say 'pipe plug' is that on top left of the housing, where your feet would be?

It is located on the side under the top of the platform, in front of the brake and it is a square headed pipe plug. The 90wt. gear oil should be touchable by a finger stuck in to the first knuckle and bent downwards. If you touch oil it is OK. If the oil is looking like tan Moose, Let the tractor sit un moved for five days then remove the plugs in the bottom one at a time, and just enough to let out water till the oil starts to come out. It is messy, but works. Then check it for level. JimN

Thank you for the help. That sure makes things easier that pulling the 3/4 drive plug from the top of the platform. Am I to assume that is the fill opening?

It's several inches below the top of the housing, on the side--You need an Operator's manual, all sorts of things in there you will never find out otherwise.

Yes, I am going to order an owners manual from here. I've heard most available on Ebay are poor copies. Thanks for the help.

i have ordered coppies from ebay (pilot440 or simlir) the coppies did not have the same bindings..... .but were very readable and served the purpose. They just use full sheets of paper and staple the part where it folds. Not perfect but like i said,,,,, very readble and pictures are sharp and clear. i got them from a guy named pilot or penkure440. I have bought M&W fricton throttles from him befor also, like 3 of them.
