I have an F-12 that has been on the farm since new in 1937. It has a heisler overdrive. Is it a good idea to put the belt pulley back on, or will it spin off? Where can I get a new temperature gauge? Thanks.

I would not put on a belt pulley, if you have a pulley, then when you push in the clutch to shift into another gear, you have to wait for the pulley to stop turning (which can take a while) before shifting into another gear. If you shift while its turning, the gears will grind and wear out. Put a pulley shaft guard on the shaft for safety.

Karl is right, you won't like it with the pulley on. The factory had a cover to slip over the shaft when not using the pulley. They may be hard to find though, but you should find one with patience. I had heard this before that a pulley could fly apart if hooked up with an overdrive. It will spin a lot faster, but not sure if they will break or not. I have an over drive, but took it off and I still had to drag my foot on top of the pulley so I could shift gears. Pulley is off now also but I work with mine, might be ok for a show to have it on, but don't let anyone hear you grind gears!

You won't like the tractor as well with the belt pulley installed. It'll make a lot more transmission noise, and you'll find that you can't change gears until the pulley coasts to a stop after the clutch is depressed.

Do a search on this site for Rice Equipment. He'll have temp gauges and a lot of other goodies for F-12.
