Hey Guys, My H needs some throttle adjustment. It doesn't start opening up until the throttle is well past half way up the range on the teeth. I have the hood off and everything looks as it should, is the adjustment inside the govenor box itself. I don't see any other way to do it. Can someone walk me through it. Thanks PUTTER

Take the rod off of the flat arm on the back of the governor.
Put the hand lever of the throttle in the high speed notch.
Pull the governor lever to the end of its travel (toward high speed).
Adjust the belcrank linkage near the top of the engine until the rod pivot aligns tightly with the hole in the governor rod at that point. Thghten the jamb nuts put in a new cotterpin in the governor link, and you are home free. --- PS it is normal for it to have almost 25 to 30% free play at the idle end of the hand lever travel. JimN

I have also found that quite a bit of that slop goes away after rebuilding the carb and installing a new throttle shaft.

I don't know if that was the plan, but it certainly seems to have worked out that way in the real world, fifty years later.

I would bet it is in the likage that connects to the Gov rod. Is the Gov lever working in conjunction with the throttle rod? Sometimes there is a lag due to bad adjustment. Taking the cover off of the Gov is ok and you can watch all the actions take place.

You will need to take the cover off the governor and adjust the low idle screw and the high idle setting screw. How to adjust it is in the service manuals from your farm stores. Your throttle linkage is connected to your governor linkage then governor to carberator.
