This H that I am working on has the starter button mounted way back and low and in a very awkward position to get to to push the button. I am told, but have never seen one, that there is a thing that bolts to the steering column that will allow one to depress the starter by pressing on the device with the foot. #1, is there such a thing? and #2, if there is, does anyone have one for sale?

We took the foot actuator off of our ole M and threw it away!!!,, Actually it may still be hanging in the shed. It seemed to put the starter switch in a bind and after a while mess up the switch. We moved it up to the light bar with a home made bracket.

Hi Tom , I bet you have the foot switch. Call KFox and see if he has one. I was just over there and hauled off his 41 H frame. But I don't think he got his shed cleaned out yet.

So solly, don't have one. There was one in the boneyard over in Linton.

Hs and Ms had a variety of starter switch systems. I don't know the SN breaks, (or if there were any meaningful breaks. Some had pull rods with a loop, some had light bar mounted push buttons, some had a rod and spring at an angle through the bottom of the steering post, some had a steering post mounted push button, and Supers often had a small pivoted lever that when pushed down would pull the rod to the starter. None were terribly hard to activate, but if yours is, maybe a piece is missing. JimN

Tom, even better is the button holder that mounts up high on the steering support column, directly across from the ampmeter box. Puts that starter button right up handy where you can push it with your hand. The later Hs came standard with that style, and even my earlier Hs have been converted. It may not be correct, but it sure makes life easier.

Rusty, my 44 H has that kind on it. Do you think it is not original to that model.

Rusty Farmall is right on. It is in a position that actually is better than the foot lever on the M

If it was me, I'd move that push button to wherever I wanted it and replace the wiring in it in the process. Being "original" could be saved for other things.

that's what I'm saying. Why not wire an ignition switch in or maybe a modern pushbutton?
Heck you could install a foot operated automotive starter switch from a 50's era car (most auto stores have them in place of the original. Actually the IH switch is just one of these bolted to the fuel tank column. Relocate that sucker to the deck..... .....
