I took the muffler off to get into the garage as my roof on my tractor shed won't be on for 3 weeks, so out go the wifes van!!!! anyways my 44 H is looking like a flame throwen funny car!!! I wass very suspect that the no 2 exaust valve wasent a shuttin all the way. As i can take the no 2 plug wire off at an idel and it dosent change a bit, so i knew there had to be a vslve not opening or closing..... well it is the exaust valve not closing...When it is compleatly dark and i know shes shoot flams i did a test... I took off the #2 wire and the flam thrower went away. does this sound like a ex valve? I was wondering what is the easyest way to change the valve spring... i have herd of using string in the cylinder to bump the valve open so you can change it. is this the easyest way? thanks guys. in was in there a week ago and there was a spring that was real short looking I bet thats my culprat... I did adjust the valve lash and it helped but i think the spring is totaly shot now.... all thoughts welcome

You asked the same question about the same valve on the same tractor on June 13. Did you happen to read any of those responses or check the compression yet, as was suggested?

Hey Johnny, have you done a compression test on it yet? If you suspect that the valve isn't closing I would take the valve cover off and spin it over to see. The easiest way I've found to change valve guide seals, springs, etc. is to get the adapter and connectors and pressurize the cylinder. Then with it pressurized you can remove the keeper and spring to repair or replace whatever is needed. I would also double check that the timing is correct because that can cause it to backfire and shoot a few flames also.

Good Luck with it.
Jim

I think I would take the head off and see what is going on in there. Valve may be damaged.

i know what you are talking about....but mine was way way to high up in the air. and some times the valve will close and the flame goes away. when it does flame up it is defently a pattern.

Both my old Ms will shoot flames out of the muffler with a little back pressure. Going over a hill or something. My old 350D shoots flame 12 inches all the time when pulling a disk or plow, but the fuel is up on it a tad. I really like to run it after dark.

You should see the flames that shoot out of my f-12 when I am pulling a log up the hill and forget to advance the spark! with the short pipe on those things you can really feel the heat. kind of nice though on a cool fall evening.Once in a while I get a chunk of red hot carbon or manifold rust fly out (from the hot spot kero manifold valve no doubt), got burned a couple times from that. I also went to a tractor show and my tent got wet before I got it set up. I had the 10-20 with me so I pulled it up next to the door of the tent with the exhaust pipe aimed at it. reved it up and retarded the spark. Consistant blue flames 3 feet out of the pipe, I thought I was going to melt the tent down and almost did! Had to move the tractor! the tent dried out in about 4 minutes though.

I get hot embers out of that 350D sometimes to. Looks like fireworks in the dark. My 666 even does it a little if I have been idleing around with it and then open it up.
