Well I am making slow but sure progress on the H rear end rebuild. I got the differential out today and wouldn't you know it the bad bearing that shucked peices that I noticed when I changed the oil was the very last bearing that came out. It was the RH bull pinion inner bearing. It was missing one ball and most of the retainer on one side. I never found the ball inside. Everything is out of the housing from front to back but no sign of it. I spent the evening cleaning parts so tomorrow I can start putting it back together. Whew! What a job! but it will be worth it with all new bearings and seals. I may sell my truck and just drive the H everwhere!

Bob Kerr,
I've been following your progress because I have a 51 h. Tranny growls quite a bit. Even in neutral when I let the clutch out. I figured it was just the main shaft and counter shaft bearings. Didn't want to have to pull the axles and differential apart. I changed the grease. It had almost 2 gaollons of water and only about 1 gallon of very dirty grease. Thought it would be better cleaned and refilled but it's not.

I am confident that you will get it. When you finish I have a 44 H that could use some tranny work to. I think it has a bad bearing on the main shaft. It knocks whenever the cluth is engaged. It is way down on the list, but I will get to it someday. I am still trying to get my 350 D back together have a C and the 450D waiting in line ahead of the H. The old M could use a new clutch and seals. I have to many old tractors I think. So does my wife. The only reason I still farm is so I can drive old tractors.

I really can't wait to get it done. yep, when I get this one done, I may just have to open up an H tranny shop! One thing though I found out today at the bearing place that the pilot bearing (43356DA) on the main shaft is getting VERY hard to find. I would get one of those now and put it somewhere for later. we had to order it out of a bearing house in Texas that specializes in obsolete bearings and not one manufacturer is making them so when they are gone, they are gone. If you want one let me know and I will give you the contact info. I had some trouble with my M clutch a while back, one bolt came out of the coupler and both bolts came out of the throwout bearing sleeve. I noticed a few days ago it is making a clicking sound also when under heavy load. I may have to tear back into that and figure it out also.

Bob, CaseIH still stocks that pilot bearing PN.43356DA. Its a bit spendy at $64 but not hard to get at all just visit your local CIH dealer.

I don't think anything is wrong with my M except for a bad rear seal that is letting oil leak on to the clutch and causing it to slip a little in a hard pull. I will cur that with a new seal and a button clutch. Then I will be off to the tug pulls again. I will look in to the bearing deal Monday morning. We have a bearing place in Lexington that use to make them while you waited, but they quit doing that about 20 years ago.

I hope you find that ball bearing. You'd better look good cause it would suck if it got pulled up into your fresh work. :(

Oh it is very cleaned out! not one thing left in or on the housing. I scrubbed it out good with kerosene and even got the oil channels cleaned out. I had a few people stop by today and I told them to go get some ham and beans and we would build a fire under the housing and cook them! Farmall bean pot! I will post pics of it tomorrow when it is light out and I have it uncovered. Looks like you have some projects going too. Neat Ms!

Now that would be something! A Farmall cooker!!!!! Here in Cajun country we would have to boil mudbugs in them! Damn..... .I'm gonna have to look for a scrap tractor/tranny case now!!!! LOL!

Yep, I have some projects..... too many methinks. I do antique cars and military vehicles too and I think I'm to the point where I'll probably be near death when I finally finish getting everything done. Might be time for me to thin out my herd? :)

Patrick, if you are in Cajun country you should be able to find a cotton picker. Most of them were sold in the cotton belt. There are also some in Ca and Arizona.

Maybe? We sure do have allot of Farmall MV's though. I live in Branch, Louisiana and our region tenders more to the rice, sugarcane, crawfish industry than anything else. Lots of HI-clear types of tractors in this area.

Up in north LA near my camp there are oodles of cotton farms so I'll have to keep an eye out for some. I think I'll just leave this tractor a tractor though but it would sure be neat to see one :)
