H Manifold problem

I bought a new manifold for my H today. When I got it out the box, it was beautiful.

I slid it on the studs to put the nuts on. There is not enough side play to get the nuts started on the studs. Has anyone experienced this problem and is there a solution other than taking the unit back.

After taking out a bank loan to buy it, I want a good one.

Another option is to use socket head cap screws in the stud holes. Be sure to match the threads. With the original washers under the heads, and silver molybdnum disulfide antisieze on the threads it will be fine. JimN

I don't know what you mean by "side play". But, the nuts go over thick washers that fit in the circular cutouts in the mainfold. And, it is not unusual for the aftermarket manifolds to not fit perfectly (or maybe I should say it IS unusual for them to fit perfectly). If that is what you have they can usually be made to work.

By side play...wrong words...I meant that the stud is too close to the side so that the nut will not start on the stud. Cannot turn it.

If you need I have an original H manifold that has been polished inside and out, painted hi-temp black. planed absolutely flat, no welds cracks or chips. Better than NOS. New threads and new pipe. I did one for my H and had this one laying in the shop so did both of them at the same time. Planned on Ebaying it, but email me if interested.

You should be able to put in longer studs; check out the McMaster and Carr website
