What supports the gas tank/hood? I have a 1948 Cub and the previous owner used a couple pieces of welded together stock. Doesn't seem right.

Help!

Someone may have modified your hood and gas tank like they did mine. When IH made the Cub they made the gas tank and the hood as one piece. People didn't like the fact that to work on the tractor engine they had to take off the whole unit, so they cut the two apart or cut the side out and hinged it. Whoever cut mine apart had used a piece of flat stock and drilled holes on each side so it held the gas tank and hood back together. In the end, it was harder to take all those screws out than removing the tank/hood assembly. I ended up getting a used replacement gas tank/hood for mine from TM Tractor parts. Roger

That support seems to go on the bach of the tank closest to the seat. I sn't there anything that support the hood where it meets tghe tank?

No. The tank and hood are one piece. The instrument panel supports the back of the tank. The side channels next to the radiator support the front of the hood. The middle can't go anywhere.
