Clutch spline ?

I know I've seen the answer umpteen times before, but I can't narrow down a search to less than 1600+ possibilities, so here goes.

Which way do the long splines on a clutch disc on a B go? Toward the engine, or toward the tranny?

My five year-old motor job is tickin' along great, but I've bounced her on the brakes, dragged my neighbor's tractor up and down the road, even tried to uproot one of his maple trees, and still can't free the clutch. Left some pretty impressive holes and skid marks in my wake, though! ;8^)

Looking up thorugh the handhole, it looks like the longer end of the clutch splines are facing to the rear toward the tranny, but I've about decided I'm going to have to split her to free her up, and just want to be sure I get her back together right.

TIA.

Looking up in the hole, is the pressure plate releasing? If so, this is what I've done in the past... Block your clutch pedal, spray the clutch plate with PB Blaster, soak it right down, let it set overnight. Get another tractor and driver, hook it to your tractor, start your tractor, and start pulling the other guy. You hold your clutch in, and then have him start applying brakes on his tractor. This usually works for me. Usually if they come loose, I'll keep pulling on the other tractor with the clutch in a little bit and let it slip and smoke. This will clean it up plus smoke off the oil. But in any chance be safe. I always hook to something the tractor can move because they will flip over fast.

Yep! Pressure plate's coming back. Not fingers nor TO bearing interfering with the hub of the disc.

I didn't mention that I soaked down what I could on the shaft, thinking it might be stuck along there rather than against the flywheel or the pressure plate.

The dragging another tractor is what we tried. No go. I may try the same thing on an uphill with 8k of Dodge on four disc brakes before I give up, but I'm worried about tearing something up. As for the fixed object, I'm pulling on the swinging drawbar, which is anchored and pulling from ahead of the rear end, so it's forcing the front down and won't flip on me. But thanks for that warning.
What I really want to know is which direction the splined hub of the disc faces. From what I can see from below, it's not the problem, but I want to be sure. I think I'm looking at the long end facing aft, but my photographic memory is foggy sometimes, and it may be the short end. I'll know fer sure of course when I get her apart, but want to be sure to get the new one in right.
