I wanted to replace the hydraulic lines running back to the Fasthitch on my 340 with new steel tubing, and also run remote hydraulics lines to the rear. The existing steel lines coming out of the valve manifold are 5/8 inch OD. Do you think it would make a significant difference if I used 1/2 inch OD tubing instead? I realize the smaller diameter tube will have a greater pressure drop, but it"s only a couple feet, and 1/2 inch is much easier to work with.

Nope will be just fine for that. Should be able to get used lines and everything you need for that in the junk yards. Would save all the work bending and you've got the valves to mount anyway that way all the fittings will go together easier.
