Will an IH 574 operate a round baler?

With my 3010 out of operation for the time being, I am trying to run my New Idea 484 round baler with an IH 574. The 574 is overheating. Is the round baler too much for the tractor or should I be looking for a problem elsewhere? The only problem I have found so far is that the 574 was low on hydraulic fluid and being Sunday, could not find any place local to get fluid. I will try filling it with fluid tomorrow, but don't want to cause any damage to the tractor if the round baler is too much for it. Thank you.

Hi, I assume it is a Diesel 574.. the rads are prone to plugging on that model of tractor. The other problem is they can scale up on the inside causing over heating. Require steam cleaning to flush out the scale.

Sorry, it is a diesel. We did clean the radiator and transmission oil cooler today. They were plugged up. Also removed the front end loader and filled it to the top with hydraulic fluid. We did roll up hay with it today and it ran 7 hours without overheating (Yes!). It did get warm so I guess as soon as the 3010 is operational again, we will have the radiator steam cleaned as you suggest. It's nice to know that we can use it as a backup for the 3010. Thank you for your help.

Thank you. Will try filling the hydraulic fluid and blowing out the radiator today. Then give it another try.

My Uncle was having that problem one time. I own 1/2 interest in a Leroi 125 and I was going by my Uncles with it I stopped and blew out his Rad. In a few days he stopped me and said well sonny you fixed my tractor.

Yes Sir,

Anyone who has ever been in a hayfield knows that this is just standard procedure and a yearly occurance. :>)

The 574 will handle the roller OK. I suspect you have a problem with the tractor. Maybe just needs the radiator blown out. We have rolled thousands of rolls with a 584 that dad bought new with a roller in 1980. My uncle rolls all of his hay with a 574.

Thank you for your help. We blew out the radiator and transmission oil cooler today and they were plugged up. Also removed the front end loader and filled it up with hydraulic fluid. We rolled up hay with it today and it ran for 7 hours without boiling over. We thought we were going to lose a lot of hay without the 3010 and now we know we have a backup for it. We probably wouldn't have tried using it with the roller again if we hadn't been told it could be done. Thanks.
