How slow can a Farmall C and Super C go

Thinking about using it for transplanting but think it might be a little fast?

It will go slow enough. We used a Super C and a 230 for 25 years to pull one row Mechanical transplanters for setting tobacco. They work as good as any I ever used on a one row setter. I still use the one row setter on my fast hitch Super C to set garden plants with. I also pulled a two row with my M on a limited scale, but it would go slow enough. They are easy to mount right to the fast hitch drawbar. My uncle has one on a 3 point hitch that he made.

We just finished up transplanting eggplant with our H. It too has a 2 1/2 mph 1st gear. It takes it's time at low idle and the transplanter in the ground. Your luck with transplanting will depend on the plant spacing that you are going for and the skill of your crew.

Average folks (two people per row) should be able to hit just about every pocket at 14" spacing. Mary can hit 2 out of 3 at 14" by herself. When you get down to 10", they had better be paying attention and using both hands.

You would need to find one with the hydro creeper option in order to use it for that purpose.

They are too fast, even if Idled way down, they are not at the 1/2 mile an hour needed. (opinion) JimN

Jim, 1/2 MPH is barely moving. We can set 10 acres a day with a 2 row. I run it on the 666 in 1st gear DD at 1800 rpms. However my boy's have a lot of experiance riding this thing. They are like all other young farm boy's around here. They learn to do this at 5 or 6 years old. We used the Super C and 230 until 1981 when we finally got a 2 row model with dads 484. I remember in 1979 we were setting with the 230 and the governor went south. Dad tied a string to the governor linkage ran it through the fan shroud and kept the tractor slowed down enough we could finish setting tobacco that year.

You, Sir, are Correct! in reply to Janicholson, 06-10-2007 07:15:12
Accordian to the good ol' owner's manual, the speed in first gear is 2 1/2 miles per hour. No engine speed is given, but I doubt you could vary that by much more than a third.
