Well, I did as you guys instructed me in an earlier post and filled all the holes to the rim with ATF (picked up some P BLaster also). I jacked one side up and blocked it so I could rock the tire back and forth in gear. By the way, I think the neighbors are a little puzzled why I'm crawling inside the rim and doing a dance. I'm going to be patient and let it sit like this for a week or better, ocassionally rocking it back and forth to see if I can break it loose. I don't know if this is possible to anyone but Hercules, but I'll try it for lack of a better method. I'll keep you posted-I hope I didn't wreck the engine already. I've only used it a half dozen times to push some snow.....the perils of life, I guess!

I took the head off my farmall B after letting it soak for a month or so. Soaked up all the cylinders with AFT, Marvel Mystery oil, etc. for another 7-8 months. Finally ended up dropping the oil pan and taking rod caps offs. 3 of the cylinders had freed up, but the final one still took a block of wood, heavy hammer, and a few hard blows to loosen it up.

I have had some old guys tell me to get one unstuck, to do all the soaking stuff, BUT jack up one wheel and put a concrete block or something like that under the wheel so the tractor will fall off the block when it losens up. have tractor in gear and it uses the weight of the tractor to put a little force on it. They said to just leave it there like that and when you see the wheel on the ground the engine will have moved. One guy also said to hook up a 15ft or longer pole to a jacked up wheel and put some weight on the end of the pole, when the pole is on the ground it will be loose. Might be worth a try. and should keep the neigbors from chuckling. Good luck with it.

Bob - The "pole in the wheel" thing can work. But you can easily put a LOT more continuous torque on the crankshaft like this:

Engage (push in) the starting crank shaft extension at the front of the tractor. Next take your biggest pipe wrench and grab the crank shaft extension. Orient the wrench so it's turning the shaft clockwise and so the wrench handle is on the LEFT side of the tractor. Now slip a cheater pipe (4 or 5 ft length of steel pipe) over the wrench handle for leverage. Finally hang a 100 lb or so of weight on the end of the pipe and let her sit.

Net effect you'll be appling 400 - 500 ft lb of torque continuously to the crankshaft. And you will know right away if/when the engine breaks loose!

Thanks Bob M , I had forgot about that one! I had tried everything to get my 10-20 unstuck, but it had sat way too long with water in it (years and years and years), so I finally had to pull the head off. Good thing I did that because if the pistons would have moved it would have ruined most of the valve train as all but one of the valves were seized. Come to think of it, I did shear off the pin on the crank handle putting too much force on it.

Set a battery in it and use the starter motor. The starter will put out a lot more torque then you will ever be able to get from tring the rear tire thing. Never hold the starter button just hit it with fast short taps. I do it all the time on stuck engines and out of 20 plus I ave only had 2 that didn't free up

Just a thought - I've had stuck engines that I've left soaking for several months before finally pulling the head off, only to discover an inch of water on top of the pistons with the oil floating above that.

Did you blow in the spark plug holes with compressed air before putting the trans fluid in? If the engine locked due to water, it could still be sitting on top of the pistons and oil floats on water...

Good luck getting it running again!
