I just greased the rear axle seal zerks on my Super C and now one is leaking oil. Will it stop leaking or will I have to replace the seal? Transmission is not over filled.

As Randy said, if all is as it should be, there should be no oil from the transmission in the rear axle housing. There is an oil seal where the axle enters the transmission on the inside end. That seal probably is leaking. It's a pretty big job to do, as the axle and the housing must be removed to do it. To get the axle out, you have to go inside the transmission to take the inside end of the axle loose so you can slide it out of the bull gear. Some say this can be done through the PTO opening (after you remove the PTO assesmbly). However, I think this might be difficult to do on the C, as the opening after the PTO is off is not that big and getting the bull gear on the axle may be quite a chore. The only lube for the outside axle bearing is supposed to be the grease from the zerk. If the leak is not too bad, easier to just live with it.

With these hints and studying the parts book, it looks as if one could remove the outer bearing retainer, seal and bearing, then remove the axle housing, leaving the axle in place, and replace that inner seal. Is this possible or am I missing something?

I've not been into one of these, but I don't think it's possible to remove the axle carrier without removing the axle and carrier as an assembly. If you have a parts book, look at item 22, the rear axle bearing retainer. That holds the bearing in the axle carrier and keeps it from comming out. The inner race of the bearing rides against a shoulder (I think) and thus you can't pull the axle carrier off without first taking off the bearing retainer.

Chances are it will keep leaking. The grease zerk is for the outer seal. There is another "inner" seal near the rear end that is lubricated by the rearend grease. You will have to pull the whole axel to get to that one. The inner seal keeps the rearend grease in. The outer seal is more of a dust seal for the outer axle bearing.
