I bought a 1979 1486 this spring, it runs great. The other day the remote hydraulics suddenly quit lifting. The tractor has no 3 point, the steering and brakes still work fine. I'm waiting for the manual to show up that I ordered, but in the mean time I wonder if someone could tell me where the relief valve resides. I don't see anything obvious in the controll spool.

Thanks

Well drain the rear end and remove the hyd pump and check for a sheared key on the pump that is if it is a OLD STILE OPEN CENTER SYSTEM and not the newer PFC system if it is then your on your owen as i do not have enough experance with them to do ya any good .

I"m just getting a feel for the way this thing is put together. It is the open center hydraulics, but at this point Im not sure where the pump is (looks like on the rh side above and ahead of filter). Is the steering on a seperate pump?

No the pump is on the left side of the tractor down under the left step and a littel back , sorta a square plate with a clipped conner , just remove the outer bolts and with a gskt scraper or putty knife break the gskt seal and remove . Use new O/Rings and gskt and a couple long bolts when going back together . . For a drain pan to drain the rearend i use the bottom third of a 55 gal drum cut off just above the bottom ring. The drain plug is under the drawbar just remove the pin retaining bolt and slide the drawbar back .

Oh yea as for the steering pump it is with the MCV and that is in the center section this pump controls the steering braking pressure to lock up the T/A and also the cooling and lub of the rearend and trans.

Thenks for the help, I sure appreciate it. I'm going to head out now and drain the oil out of it. I would also like to check the relief valve out, do you know where it is located?
