I am not sure what is going on here. I was cultivating some peas in 1st gear and all of a sudden it just stalled out. I figured maybe it was out of gas (nope it wasn't that), so the I think maybe I should change the fuel filter (that didn't help for long, come to think of it...It ran for half the day and then conked out again)....So then I thought I would rebuild the Carb. (I had a kit laying around and the carb was leaking a bit anyway... but that didn't seem to help). This time after it stalled I was able to restart it six or seven times each time I started it, it seemed to stay running less and less time. Now I am thinking maybe it is the governor. (Why do i think that? Somone in this forum mentioned it last time I asked a question and it has kind of been in the back of my head the whole time). The problem is that I know absolutely nothing about the role that a governor plays in an engine...also, is replacing a governor a big deal?

Does it have good spark? Are the plugs and wires good? If the fuel filter is clean, there would be no reason to remove it. When you re assembled your carb, did you adjust it properly? Also make sure the fuel tank, sediment bowl and fuel line are clean. Make sure the points and condenser are good too.

Andy.

I recently (3 weeks ago) replaced the wires, plugs, condenser, and points. I am not sure how to "adjust the Carb.? I will look in my manual...is that what the spring loaded screw is for? The weird thing is that when I first start it, it runs great. And then under load or even when it just idles, all of a sudden it starts to lose power and eventually it stalls (if I try to give it more gas when it's starting to lose power, 9 times out of ten it will immediately stall. The same thing was happening before and after I re-built the carb.

If that fuel filter isn't for a gravity flow fuel system its probably the culprit. Hal
PS: Make sure you have a good fuel flow out the tank. Could be rust or dirt both blocking the fuel outlet.

Thanks Hal, do you think i should just get rid of the filter? How will i know if i have a good fuel flow? Is there a specific rate or is it just a visual thing?

I would remove it and see if the power is ok. You can hold a clean container under the gas line and open the shutoff valve to see if there's a good flow. Not just a trickle. Hal
