Is the Case Ih 385 enough tractor for running a sq. bailer and rake over about 5 acres.

Rode the rack behind a Massey 35 years back, plenty of power, but kinda scary going up and down hills, not enough weight to safely control baler and rack.

You answering yes, is that based on experience or an educated guess. The tractor is said to have 35hp, what would the minimum horsepower be for a small bailer?

Experiance. I would not tell you it would work if I didn't know. I have baled lots of hay with smaller tractors than that before. The 385 is basicly the same as a 424/444 and either of those are plenty of tractor to pull a baler. I have also baled lots of hay with 23 HP Super C and dads 230. I have pulled a baler with a 384 which is the same as your tractor.

well, number one, raking hay can be done with my 18 HP deere. Number two, balers use the force of a flywheel to press the bales. SO 35 hp is enough to get the baler flywheel spinning and baling.
