Well i will wait and see what you guys think. if you think i should try to get it started on diesel with the help of a little eather? or should i just rip in to her and see whats up? thanx for all the tips guys im gonna get a engine servise manuel that should be all i need right? or are there some better manuls i can buy?

You should start your MD on gas, is there a reason it won't start on gas? They would never start on diesel. It take the gas to warm up the cylinders enough to run on diesel.

Doesn't matter. The MD still won't start directly on diesel for the same reasons I listed.

If as you say the cam gear is not turning it won't run on gas or diesel and I wouldn't be pulling it or turning with starter to much because the oil pump won't turn. Unless you get lucky and rest of engine is in good shape you better decide if you can put $1000 to $3000 + in engine.

Nat and the others are right. Take that dude apart. Get yourself an i&t manual. I often try and hope that stuff will fix itself, but they never have. I could have saved lots of time in the past just taking it apart and fixing it right instead of prolonging it. Those diesels are a great tractor when they start and run right, get it to start on gas and you won't regret it. Pulling is no good option.

There's a reason IH went with a "start on gas, switch to diesel" design on the MD: It won't start on diesel!

There just isn't enough compression to make diesel fire off without the engine being pre-warmed by running it on gas. The technology level at the time just didn't allow for a direct-start diesel. It was very expensive to get the high compression, but then the 6V starters of the time couldn't turn it over.

You could drag it around the yard with another tractor until it warms up enough to start on diesel, but it would be much easier to just fix it.
