I have a md and the part you bolt the magnto to dosent spin when you crank the engine over. im wondering what could cause the part the mag gets its power from to fail? also does the power that goes to mag also power the diesel pump? I'm thinking there is somthing wrong in the front of the engine. i need a breakdown of what the engine parts on the inside look like. I dont wanna take the whole thing apart if i dont have to. could there be a bad shaft that failed? My magneto works fine by hand but the part that is supposed to spin it on the engine dosent even spin with the magneto compleatly off. Are there web sites that i can go to to see the scewmatics of the md? or do i need to get a servise manuel for the md? i have never done a diesel before. i have rebuilt trannys in cars and there hard so if i can to a automatic tranny overhaul I think I can handel this diesel. any idea where to start to look for a bad part? i dont know what would fail and make the part that feeds the mag to fail. I see that part that dosent spin like it should can be unbolted from the block might there be somthing in there that might be broke?

Jonnnny, I don't have a MD and I don't know much about them. But from what you are describing it seems that the cam gear may be causing the problem.

I have a H that did what you's is doing. Mine does have a live hyd pump mounted between the mag adapter and the mag on it. One day it would not start. When I checked things out I found the cam gear had broken. Maybe the gear on mine broke from the strain placed on it while using the front end loader. I don't know why it broke, but I replaced it with what my Case/IH dealer said was a heavier cam gear. That was 5 or 6 years ago, and so far it has been working good.

Off hand I don't know of any web sites that would show you a breakdown of the parts. Maybe a service mamual for a MD would have a parts breakdown and some pictures in it that may be of some help to you.

Hopefully someone else will see this that knows about the MD series, and be able to help you get it running again.

Good Luck
