I need some weights for the front (steel) wheels for a 140. I been looking in the adds section for a year but havent seen any.

Dont guess anyone knows some place close in East Texas to check or if the freight wasnt to high then I guess I could have them shipped.

Would front weights for a 130 fit a 140 with the steel wheels? I dont know where any of those are either yet but wanted to see if they would.

Those things are kind of hard to come by here. Any of you Carolina or Kentucky guys got any?

Do you live anywhere near Toledo Bend? I have a place on the Louisiana side across the lake from Hemphill. Plus I have a few Super As.

Vacherie,

I live in Wills Point, 50 miles East of Dallas, 50 miles West of Tyler. Close to Canton where "First Monday" is.

But! If you have the weights I will come to Toledo Bend and while Im there look at the SA's.

I saw one today and Im thinking about calling the guy, he dont need it anyway. They are switching to the zero turn mowers and he has a belly mower I really want.

I don't have any weights. I have been looking at new Kubotas and heard there there was a Kubota dealer in Will's Point. Do you have any comments on that dealer?

I know the dealer very well. That place is owned by Ted Deen Jr. His father was the farmall dealer and then they switched to Kubota. The store still has a Farmall sticker over the door. Ted senior is a member of the Tractor Club and last year was restoring an H. My business is about a block from there and my house is about 1/4 mile down the street from the Kubota place. I go by there several times a day. Ill send you an email and maybe you will stop by the store when you come to Wills Point and take a look at my SA.

Randy: Why not put front bumpers on your tractors, incorperate a rack for 56-66 series type front end weights. Buy about 6 of the 70# weights. You don't want front end weight on an offset Farmall, full time anyhow.

Well now, Hugh, thats an idea. I saw Marshalls (ebay) had the bumpers for SA and 140. I think I might just think about that some more now. After 30 years of doing without I wonder why I need them anyway. Oh, got a clutch for the PTO now too.

Sure would help when your ramming customers trucks too.

be careful with marshals . they had a drag link listed i needed for my 300 utility . when i got the drag link it was for a ford . i emailed them that i had got a ford drag link . they emailed back to try it that it would work . i was mad . i had paid $32.79 including shipping for a $12-14 ford drag link . a IH drag link from a dealer is consideraby higher . it may have worked but the angle was different . i had to go to conflick resolution to get my money back .

Randy: I am currently designing racks for my 130 and 140, and I,m putting them on front side of final drive. I only need them for plowing, disking or pushing snow. I'm thinking 400# each side about 18" ahead of rear axle center, will give good traction as well as some frontend weight. I'm just trying to decide how to design them so I only need to remove actual weights when using cultivator.

Years ago I ran chloride in these little tractors, and that did make them more stable, however I like to be rid of the weight sometimes. Those suitcase weights are fast for removal, providing one doesn't have to remove the rack. I used them on my big Farmalls years ago, had racks out front but I often thought of building a rack just ahead of rear axle on 560 and 656.

Ebay did have several advertised and one of the fellers was just downstate from me here in Kentucky. I think any of the weights made for the SA through the 140 will work.

Practically every tobacco farm in this state had a SA-140 for cultivating work and now they are being sold off in droves since the Clinton administration killed the e-vil tobacco program. BJ's in the Oval Office are fine, but cigarettes and a chaw are off limits! GRRRR!

I never could understand how an industry could be sued for selling a legal product. The companies knew it was easier to pay off than to fight the left wing illegitimates.

I know what you mean, Mark. It is perfectly normal to get a BJ or flaunt the fact you are not hetro, but something is wrong with you if you want to pray or teach your son or grandson how to shoot a K-22 Smith & Wesson. What a crazy world we live in today compared to the days when these old Farmall's were new.
In my experience, the SA and 140 front weights are different. One is set up for 3 bolts; the other for 4 bolts. I believe the 140 is for 4. mike

City Boy,

I never owned a 140, so there was never any reason for me to look closely at the weights. I know the wheels themselves are different, but just figured for the sake of commonality, the weights would interchange. My old '53 SA came off a farm down close to Lexington, god only knows how many acres of tobacco it has plowed. But whomever owned it, kept better care of it than most. I have seen what I considered fairly new 140's ragged out and in shambles. Most folks parked their tractors under the stars from day one and after a few years, forgot what a greasegun and an oil change was. Yet, those little tractors kept on earning their keep.

As for K-22's...I've had 4 or 5 over the years, bought my first one for the grand sum of $165 and it was full target dressed. I've got a 617 and an old K22 in the safe now and finally after 30 years of searching, found a Smith Model 35....it's essentially a 6" barreled 22/32 kit gun..built on a J frame. Unlike a K22, you can carry it all day long and never know it's there. The first pistol I ever bought was a Colt Woodsman. I was 17. I carried and shot it so much, I wore the blue off the barrel and backstrap. It's still in the safe too. I know for a fact, that one spring when I was in my early 20's, I put 40,000 rounds through it..that's 80 bricks. I was young, no kids and had a good job and 22 ammo was dirt cheap. I'd guess over the last 32 years...I've shot 100,000 rounds in that old Colt and it was used when I got it! Never have had the first bit of trouble either. It was made in 1952.

I think every kid I knew in the late 60's and early '70's had a 22 rifle and a Zebco 202. I don't recall anybody shooting themselves or somebody else...but we had a lot of fun hunting squirrels and catching fish. Working in hay and tobacco didn't even seem so bad, except when you worked for those skinflints that fed you a dry baloney sandwich and and carried water in a gallon fruit jar. Some farmers were a joy to work for....they'd set a table fit for a king and had plenty of it and kept a washtub full of iced pop while we were working and a big Igloo cooler of cold water. When the work was done...there was more food and BEER! They paid fair and in cash too. Those folks never had to worry about having enough hands when something had to be done!

The weights for a SA are differant. Some 140's did have the same weights as the SA (industrials) but most had the steel wheels and they take a differant kind of weight. I never even seen one.

terry: Not if you buy from the right supplier. A good bumper does not attach to the front axle.
