can you belive im gonna try and sleep before the sun comes up!!! I just wanna know why that part on my MD wont spin my magneto? magneto works fine it what powers it from the tractor that is broke. So i will have to see whats up tommarow. i would imagine it is the same piece that would run live hydrolics, that pice is not spining. so with that not spining my mag dosent spin. mabey i could have the wife turn it by hand till she warms up and then switch to diesel! lol you could never time it right.

if the mag is not spinning and you have a live pump, i kinda suspect the cam drive gear broke. take the valve cover off and turn the engine over, if the rocker arms are moving, the gear is still good. if not, you gotta pull the front end off the motor and change the gear. if the rocker arms are moving, you probably need to pull the mag and see if something sheared off there, then go to the live pump and check the shaft and gears there.

johnnnny2006, if I remember correctly, you said the other day that you don't have any manuals yet.

Now, the Farmall MD is a rather complex and completely unique piece of machinery. I would STRONGLY suggest you give youself an advance birthday present, and buy an owner's and shop manual NOW, or else find someone in your locality who is familiar with these tractors and allow yourself to be guided by their advice.

Of course, you will get excellent advice here; but the potential for confusion over the internet is very real.

Frankly, the odds of messing something EXPENSIVE up by going in blind without the correct operating and shop instructions are fairly good with such exotic machinery; and I've never understood why people will pay a thousand or two for a tractor and balk at sixty dollars for a set of manuals, especially since sixty dollars spent will GREATLY reduce the need to spend hundreds of dollars down the line.
