I went to put my mag back on as when it tried to get a spark there was none. so i took the mag off and found a wire which was fray so i taped it up thinking the mag was grounding out. Any ways i went to put it back on and went to retime the engine to the mag and when i was checking which way the rotor was turning. i noticed it was not turning in time with the engine. it spins intermitenly. So i took the mag off and tried it by hand and the rotor spins perfectly when i turn the base of the mag. When i took the mag off and looked at the thing that drives the mag, and tried turning the motor over the thing the mag bolts to dosent spin with the engine like it is supposed to. the engine will turn over like all the valves and stuff is working as it dosent spin real fast. So im wondering is there somthing that can make the part that the mag bolts into not spin? what is that part called? it is like it sheered a keeper or somthing. i wish i would of checked the rotor to see if it was spining as that was my problume from the begining. not a bad magneto. so what is the most likley cause to make the thing the magneto bolts into not spin with the engine? i see there is a way to take off that part from the engine. there must be somthing broke or worn out in there. I'm hoping its not somthing deep in the engine. The guy i bought it from said he was running it on diesel at very low speed and it just died on him. then it would not start on gas. I know it is going to be somthing deep in the motor huh? I never took a diesel apart befor but i have a feeling im gonna be knee deep in MD sh!t. Or mabey ill part her out and harvest the 9 speed out of her. I know the parts sell for alot of money. especally the diesel pump. I don't know i need more information. What would cause the thing the mag bolts into not to spin with the engine? Any help at this point would be very much appreacated!

Is there any chance you are watching the impulse coupling stopping the rotor for a few degrees and then snapping it forward twice per crank revolution?

im talking about when the mag is off compleatly. the part the mag bolts into and makes the mag turn does not rotate with the engine as it should. ive never seen one apart before but i would imagin that if the part that spins the mag isent turning with the motor then there is no way it can get spark as the mag wont turn eather than. It would be like a broke drive shaft on a car. there nothing wrong with the rear end but yet the rear end wont turn, its because a broken shaft. well the same thing is happning with my mag there is nothing turning it no more as the part that normally turns the mag isent turning. thus not turning the mag. so when i dint see the rotar turn i thought it would be because it wasent mated correctly, but that is not the problume. i'll have to tear into it to see if there is somthing broke in the peace thats turns the mag. that part looks like it unbolts from the block.

I've got a 400 diesel that is being parted out. You are welcome to come by and take a look to see if what you need is still there.
