Does anyone have an idea about how many A"s had a 9 speed transmission?

Rob: Never hread of a 9 speed for an A. There were a couple of aftermarket high-low gear boxes giving 8 speeds.

I have a guy near by that has a Farmall A, and he told me it was the only one ever made with a nine speed, he suppose to have it restored for some show coming up this summer, maybe red power. I was just wondering if anybody has ever heard of it thats all.

Rob: I find this 9 speed idea in an A hard to believe. To start with, they were 4 speed from the factory, you add a high-low to that and you've only got 8. I've had a few of these apart, there is not a whole lot of room for modification within the gear box. The high-low I've seen fits in torque tube, just barely.

There is another high-low that mounts in place of the pto and incorperates a pto positioned closer to center of tractor. A guy sent me a photo of that on a 130 or 140 about 4 years ago, he didn't include any text explaining how it worked. When I tried returning an e mail to him, it got bounced by his computer, thus I completely lost contact with him. I would like to know more about that one, however no one seems to know much about it. I still have the photo on file.

I've never heard of an A with a 9-speed. Only H's and M's as far as I'm aware...
