Can you check the condenser while it is on the tractor?

With the ignition switch on and the points closed
pull the coil wire from the cap and hold near a good ground 1/8-1/4". Then have someone snap those points open and close a few times that coil wire should fire. Your condenser should be ok then. Hal
PS: I would keep a spare just in case since they are easily changed.

Unless you have a condensor tester it is pretty hard to determine their condition. The problem with testing them is it would cost more in labor to have someone test it than the replacement cost.

In general, if the contacts are wearing evenly, not transferring material from one side to the other, the condensor is fine.

If your condenser does not work, new ones can be purchased inexpensive. You can buy condenser testers.
