ADDED OIL TO FRESH 140 MOTOR AND HAVE A LEAK ON AN OIL PAN BOLT AROUND ONE OF THE BOLTS AT THE FRONT UNDER THE TIMING COVER AREA AND FRONT BOLSTER SIDE.
IS IT POSSIBLE THAT THESE BOLT HOLES ARENT (BLIND HOLE) AND THE GO THRU THE LIP ON THE CASTING ALLOWING OIL TO RUN THRU THE THREADS ON THE (OOPS UNSILICONED)BOLT CAUSING THE DRIP?
THANKS IN ADVANCE

Clean the leaking hole with a product like brake clean, and a small brush. the use teflon tape, or #2 permatex on the bolt to stop the leak, works well, JimN

Yeah, I'd try retighting the bolts. If that doesn't work and it is leaking from the oil pan, drop the pan and take out the gasket and use permatex or something. I'm guessing you put in a new gasket when you overhauled the motor and it was probably one of those worthless cardboard kind they give you in the kit. I've never had any luck with those. Cork is the way to go, I think. Problem is you usually can't get a piece big enough to make an oil pan gasket.

GM has been using RTV on their oil pans for sometime now without any gasket. That's what I used when I reinstalled the pan. It never leaked. The pans are more difficult to remove when using this, but by using a thin blade putty knife it came right off. Hal

Have you tried tightening the pan bolts? Are you sure it's not leaking from the front seal on the engine and running down? Hal

I believe 2 of the pan bolts in the front and 2 in the rear of the oil pan are longer than the rest. Not sure why though...perhaps short bolts were put in there ?

Sounds about right. on the size, the position of the long ones might be important though. I believe one short one in middle of front and rear, with one long one on each side of the short center one. But it has been a while....
