I have a good set of tires and rims to put on my 806. What is the best way to break loose the rim clamps from the cast wheels? Any tips would be appreciated.

I guess I should have added that I one at a time removed all the bolts and run a die over the threads. My concern is if the rim clamps will be a problem getting loose when I start changing the rims.

USUALLY the clamps will pop right off after loosing the bolts.

However if the clamps don't loosen, a few licks with a sledge on the inside rim after removing the bolts will loosen 'em up. Or you can loosen the clamp bolts 2 - 3 turns, then SLOWLY move the tractor forward and backward at least 1 full revolution of the rear wheels.

Also like Hugh suggests below, a 3/4" socket and about a 4' pipe "cheater" should loosen the bolts/studs without difficulty.

Not normaly , Now if ya was moven the wheels on the axels NOW then ya may have a problem but just the wheel clamps should not be a big deal though i have had a few that were tough and had to call out BURTHA my 1 inch drive and they will either come off with threads or with out. But 99% of the time the 1/2 gun will run them off or twist them off along with some ZEP penatrating fluid. Now i know this ZEP is not one that everybody has or can find but i have never found anything better.

Well my 1/2 inch drive impact is what i use it will buzz them off in a flash . Littel word to the wise here look over the Dogs (clamps) real good and the 4 that are in the humps or dive lugs on the rim , Dont taka all four of them loose just one and put them at the top and when putting the new rims on install them with the drive lugs in the same place , also don't take the nuts all the way off till ya have them all loose and i have had them come after me sorta like a big truck rim with the dayton rim . Now that old C P 745 that i have has no sence of humor on 5/8th bolts as it will twist a grade 8 in half.

Bill: A good 3/4 drive socket with a 4' breaker bar. Air impact sockets are great but it takes quite a heavy set up to over power the 4' breaker bar.
