Went and looked at the 1937 and 1940 f-20's I bought last week. The 40 has shutters, electric start, v belt fan pulley and a Heisler overdrive. I have a heisler overdrive in a f-12 but didn't know they made them for F-20's. Has anyone driven one and what is the top speed on the road?

The tag on the overdrive says it is a series D(/or a 1)20002

The F-20 was not made in 1940. Production of the F-20 ended in 1939 and the Farmall H replaced the F-20. Some overdrive boxes are slow and don't make a lot of difference. Depends on if you have the better one or the slower one.

I've got a '35 F-20 with starter, lights, and a Heisler overdrive. Ours has the high speed 4th gear in the transmission so it really goes in 4th high. I clocked it at 21 mph. Just a little scary! On the subject of F-20 "add-on" road gears, I remember three different brands:
There was a Behlen and a Bennet that were a fifth gear that required the main transmission to be in "neutral." Then there's the Heisler that is an overdrive and makes it an 8-speed.

Hi Dave, several different brands made the overdrive or road gear box for F20s. I don't know the top speed, they feel like 16 or 18mph at least. My good 20 has a Hiesler 8-speed and a Farmhand stacker, I haven't had the nerve to drop it in high and air it out.
