We purchase a 51 Farmall M tractor today, they had removed the belt pully housing and installed
an aluminium housing with gears in it. When you pulled a lever the gears will drop down on a transmission gear. Sorry I can't tell you more. There's no part numbers either.
Any help would be appreciated on what it is an what its worth. Thanks, Ed

That sound kewl. So, in effect, you have another countershaft, sometimes called the layshaft. The first gear meashes with the constant mesh gear or belt pulley gear. The other gear, on the same shaft, engages one of the gears on the mainshaft.

I don't know, have not heard of that -- but I will go along with D Slater, as he is more familiar than me.

Does the pulley mount to it? Is there any way you could post a picture of it???

Only drove one tractor with a unit like that installed and it was a long time ago. Can't remember for sure but I think the one I used required the main transmission to be in neutral and then engage the aftermarket gear box to give a speed between fourth and fifth. Does the one you have work like that? Like you I could never find a name on the housings. Think someone posted in a past forum the company that made them. Hope someone with more information will post. I think the units are rare and have no idea what there worth.

Could it be part of an electrall unit? I don't know either. You may search the tractor or implement photo's and find one.

The Electrall gearbox will only fit the large framed tractors with a mechanical TA amd IPTO. The gearbox is constant mesh and made of cast iron. Yeah, I got one.

I had no idea it was just a thought. I have seen a couple of them mounted on 400s.

My Uncle has an elecroll that I think is a pull behind unit on his C. He does some welding with it at shows.I saw it but it was a long time ago. Did they have one that mounted on the frame of the bigger tractors?
