Tara, to find the birth year of your "red iron", at the left side of this page under the "Research & Info" section; click on the "Serial Numbers" link. The link took you to a page w/a list of tractor manufacturers; click on the "International & Farmall" link. On the new page, click on the "I-140 and F-140 link to display the serial number production began w/for that model year. Next, and please follow these directions precisely, walk out your door and hollar in a northerly direction "HUGH". It may take a while as he has revealed he is 65. The meek Canadian is a knowledgeable IH IHC fellow. Shy, but if you coax him a little, he is really full of it...IH knowledge that is...be sure to tell him Al L. in Wisc. sent you.

I checked the serial numbers against what you told me and the one off the tractor doesn't match any of the years. My dad told me it was an international industrial 140 and the serial number is 29782 J, according to him. Is there any reason these numbers wouldn't match?

Tara: Don't pay ant attention to the J, that only indicates it has a Rockford clutch. 29782 is your serial number and that makes it a 1965 model.

Round axle is a regular 140. Diamond axle is an industrial. Early modles had a pull starter swith and a push button starter. Later ones had a key switch.

If yours is an industrial I would be interested to know if yours has a cast wheel or has a steel flat kind of wheel. Steel ones are solid and the cast ones had three spokes and more open.

It has a cast wheel if I go by your description. 3-spokes and rather open.

all kinds of ways these were used from around yards to pull trailers and equipment, they were a multi purpose tractor. As for the year there should be a serial number on the left side of the tractors bell houseing. (the same side as the carb) Also look for cast codes, examople A= 55 B= 56 C=57..... ..

What does a cast code tell you? and where would it be located?
