Have the opportunity to buy a nice 664 from a local tractor mechanic here near San Antonio. I wanted to get a good opinion of the tractor since not a tone of these things were built...and also... WHY were not many of these built?

John - Interesting to know that there is more than one of us from South of the Red River that uses this site. Do you know anyone in the SA area that would have IH suitcase weights for sale?

I will check with my local tractor repair guy... he's got a line on everything. Will see if he knows if there are any around. What kind of weight are you looking for?

I have a neighbor that has one he bought new and it has been a very good tractor. It is my understanding that these were built during model changes and they used parts from other models to make them. The drive train, tranny, rear end and so on are the same as the 656 utility, but has the 4 cylinder engine instead of the 6 cylinder of the 656. I am not sure but I think a little over 800 were made. They are rare.
