To all new tractor enthusiasts,we find many difficulties in our restorations and its even worse when you cant get help.
This is how I fixed my problem:
At the top of the page, there is a search function. Type in the word associated with your problem and read related postings. One person on this site said, 'there are not many here that can help you'.You would be suprised how many intelligent people have posted replies to many troubled enthusiasts, such as myself.By reading postings,I looked at the advice that was given to others and applied it to my problem.Through process of elimination,I found and have since rectified my problems. They were:
1.The unloading valve was blocked and built up with alot of gunk.
2.The blue O ring under the top cover(control valve to lift cylinder).
3.The control valve itself.
4.Spool valves needed a good clean out.
5.Most importantly I was able to attain schematic drawings for flow of the hydraulics

Ya know it is realy hard to make a correct fix for a give problem over the computer when one is not there to look and check it out . And yes i realy get technical when working on hyd. as i get the gauges out and the flow rater and pull covers to see what i can see . As if ya don't get checking things out one could vary easily get seirously hurt . As a hyd. pump has no brain other then a pressure relief valve and if that does not work and the pump just keeps on pumping something has to let go . And i realy do not want to be the one that told a guy something and have him get hurt or killed . Over the years i have seen first hand just what can happen like the three point lift cylinder piston that took the back end off my uncles 4630 . Or the axel housing on a 3020 deere that got blowen off because of a sticking pressure relief . OR the mechanic that lost his arm because he got injected by hyd pressure in his hand . And i also told ya that i had noway for sending ya a diagrham of the hyd. system as i do not have a scanner that works anymore.

It's good to hear you got it fixed.

Look, I was not trying to discourage you from asking questions. I was trying to tell you that YOU MAY NOT GET YOUR ANSWER HERE. It happens. It's nothing to get your shorts in a twist over. This is a free forum and the advice is worth exactly what you paid for it, and you get the exact level of service you paid for.

I was trying to be helpful by suggesting alternatives to a direct answer, because it was obvious to me that you were not going to get a direct answer in a timely fashion. I've learned my lesson. No more trying to be helpful.

Thank you

I am sorry you feel this way. And if have offended you then i apologies. I did take your coments the wrong way.

I believe you should keep helping others & sharing that wealth of knowledge with people that need it. There are over 250 000 post just on tractor talk. I believe there alot of people here who can help. Its just a matter of choice. I hope that i may become as knowledgable as some so i may help and understand their frustrations.

To many people make assumptions of others and i must apologies for my part.

There must be a language barrier here, because you apologize then turn right around and slap me in the face all over again.

It is not "a matter of choice." Nobody here is choosing to not help you, and I for one do not appreciate you implying that any of us are withholding knowledge for any reason.

We (you, me and everyone else here) represent a tiny tiny tiny TINY (less than 1%) subset of the farmers, tinkerers and "real tractor mechanics" in this world. The vast majority of the expertise is out there somewhere, not participating in this forum. A few by choice for sure, but some because they don't know about the forum, some because they don't have time, some because they don't "get" computers and/or the internet.

Though there are some here who would argue otherwise, we don't know everything. Between the regulars, the occasionals, and the one-timers, we know a LOT as a group, but not everything. You insisting that someone MUST know, and implying that we're intentionally not telling you how to fix your tractor is a huge insult to this community.

Well, okay, someone probably does know, but that someone does not necessarily participate in this forum. They're not obligated to.

Nat, Keep them helpful ideas and tips coming, there are more folks that appreciate the frequent posters here on these forums than guys that show up wanting instant answers.

If an answer is needed asap then call the d*mn dealer.

Randy, Lets get our facts in order.. I have been on this web site for a while. if i am correct a bit longer than you have.

I am in no way showing up wanting answers instently, Yet am im suprised how you can manage to add your few cents in without knowing the person.

This is no soap opera. this is about helping others. I am sure you will get over it.

Oh Huss I am over it. Just kind of rubs me the wrong way when I see you post on another forum like you are trying to spread the word about

"One person on this site said, 'there are not many here that can help you"

Who really gives a sh*t! I just think it was in very poor taste.

If everyone pointed fingers at someone about advice they did or did not like, there would be no posters on the forum.

No need to reply Huss, I have said my peace..
I shake your hand and move on.

Randy

that is sure true allan. being a jack of all trades and a master of none myself, i try and share things that i came across in my travels. i found there is always more than one way to skin a cat. seems like the more ya learn, the more trouble you can get into when fixing these old girls. and its real easy to overlook the obvious. was workin on a jd 301 a for a guy. tuneup, new hydraulic pump, changed all the fluids, got here running real good.drove it around real happy. went to engage the pto, then tried the differential lock, released the clutch, tractor died immediatly would not restart. had spark and fuel, wouldnt even pop on ether. figgured i must have toasted something inside the motor. tried for about half an hour to get her going no luck. had a buddy show up, not a mechanic at all. he starts playing with levers, says, hey that thing fell off. turns out the throttle control rod clip fell off, shut the carb butterfly closed. throttle was set up to shut the tractor off when you went to low idle. go figure..... put the rod back on, fired right up!!
