I saw a 1940 H that had a new paint job (not a show paint job) everthing works and is there except all of the duel fuel parts are gone. it looks very nice. tires are good probally 70% on back 90% in front. looks like every thing is hooked up as it should be. the battery case and cover is gone. other than that it looks really really nice. he wants 1250 for it. i was on my way back with a md and would of bought it if he would of been home as i had the goose neck on and it will haul 2 tractors easy. but i dont know if i should make a trip back for it? he did not have a price on it at the time and we left a note and called me and told me 1250. he also had a beautiful cub there for 2900. he was firm on the cub. the h it sounded like he would dicker. but i have not drove it or heard it run. but i dont think he would paint a bad running tractor. he said all gears hold with normal sound. i just thought 1250 was low for a h in that condition so when i herd the price i was excited to go back for it. i thought about it for a while and thought there might be somthing he is not telling me about it. it has a glass jar intake cleaner and a set of rear weights. narrow front. what should i do?

Thanks for all the comments. I have herd people around here call the H's and so on that burn dist and kero duel fuel, all fuel, dist burners, and kero burners. In the manuls your right it just calls them dist or kero or gas only. I did not think it would be that big of a deal. so the tractor was a dist burner now running on gas. I wont really be sad if i go back next time on my way to south dakota and she is gone. I was gonna buy it from the guy right then and there as i had my trailer all ready to go i was hauling a md home. I thought the price was cheap actually for how nice it looked. not show quality but it looked nice compared to alot of em you see for that price range. I wont be sad if shes gone as when i left I knew i would never see her again. as if i went back there in a month there will be other tractors sitting along hiway 7. i seen at leat 8 that were farmalls. and saw 5 or six non ih models. I already have 4 farmalls in my collection and that is just the start. I also have a cub grizzly that is just like the j.d. gator and i have a cub cadet hydro with a snow thrower on it and a nice home made cab with heat. The only thing i dont like about the cub is the snow thrower dosent take a big enough swath as i can just use my MD with the bucket and get er done in about 10th of the time. but it leaves piles where the cub does not. i have kids and they love the big piles of snow to make caves in and play king of the hill. I think im gonna take the snow thrower off and oil it up and put her aside and throw the mower deck back on as the mtd mower i got is always blowing belts or fallen apart. But as far as the "duel fuel" goes i have herd many i.h. guys call them that whether or not it is what they are tech called dosent matter to me as its all good.

How far away is it? If it's on the way to CA, then pick it up, keep driving, drop it off to me and I'll give you $1000 for it. :-D

WOW, a dual fuel H. I didn't know any of those were ever made. I have seen the Hs and Ms that started on gasoline, and then were switched to distillate or kerosene, but they were never called "dual fuel". "dual fuel" is a John Deere term.

Beg to differ with you Rusty. JD called them all fuel not dual fuel. Just for your info. Or at least thats what they called the older ones like my 1935 JD-B

Old, you're right, but we do agree that IH did not call any of their tractors "dual fuel". They were either distillate, kerosene, or high compression gasoline.

Yep farmall had some that would burn other things but I don't remember what they used to call them, other then that they had 2 fuel tanks, the name eludes me at this time

I'd buy it for that. I paid $1200 for my 52 H and ended up having to split it to replace the ring gear. I've had a blast with it and having to work on it has been half the fun. Mine came with wheel weights, fenders, and a 6 ft bush hog. It's up to you, but to me that sounds like a fair deal.

You could wait a few months, maybe a year, as my late dad would have, then drive back and see if he still has his tractor. Then go back to your place feelin" bad.
