I have a Super H with a belly motor. It will start up very good the first time but dies after about 15 seconds. It will not start again right away but walk away for one hour and it will start away. It again dies in 15-30 seconds. I have plenty of gas at the carburator. Suggestions????

My Super H did exactly the same thing last year. It turned out to be a stuck needle valve or float (not sure which) in the carb. I could tap on the side of the carb and it would then run fine. I ended up doing a carb rebuild and it hasn't done it since, but before it would do it every once in a while. Roger

Did you by any chance just put on a new fuel cap? The caps are supposed to be vented, some of the new replacement caps are not.

If it runs for only 15 seconds, I suspect fuel. You probably have a partially plugged jet or some other passage. Fuel flow to the carb won't help that. A bad coil will usually let it run for a few minutes before it dies, but as mentioned, check both.

If i was you I would replace the plugs wires, points condenser and coil. But you might wanna start with the cheapest and work forward. or if you have another tractor you can "borrow" the part(s) from that could save you some money as you could find out excactly which part it is. To me it sounds like the coil is getting over heated and will FAIL after it heats up. Then when it cools down works good. To me i hate to mess around with parts that are who knows how old and I would just replace all of the parts to have a fresh set up. But now if it is gas thats making it die you will know by pulling the choke as it will go a little longer. You might as well just take out the screen and clean it anyways as it cant hurt and probally needs to be done anyhow. If the screen is cleen and your not getting gas check the fuel/water seperater to make sure your getting a good flow from the tank. if it dosent come out with the cup and screen off look inside of the tank as there might be junk over the drain and that will cause the fuel to not come out. But if you ask me to guess with out seeing it I think it is not getting spark as if it were getting some gas it would run like crap and sputter and pop and chug well you get the idea. Freshin up the ignition system with new plugs wires points, condenser, and mabey a new coil, but they can be spendy especally 6volt ones so if you have one you can take off a running tractor that will help. Clean the fuel system and do a flow test. you will have her running like a champ in no time! well good luck hope it is somthing easy to fix. jonnnny2006

When it quits pull the coil wire from the distributor cap and hold near a good ground 1/8-1/4" while someone makes an attempt to start the tractor with ignition switch on. If there's no fire replace the condenser, that's the easiest. If that doesn't help replace the points as the Vet suggested still no fire replace the coil.

Does it run any longer if you choke it? Hal

Did ya pull the bottom plug on the carb to see if the fueol is getting into the carb , there should be a full stream the size of the hole . If that is good then check your spark , bad coil, bad cond. bad points . That is where ya start .
