I have a md i just got home. I was looking at the serial number on the engine and right above the fuel pressure gauge was the serial number. it is FDBKM 15493 The serial on the side of the tractor indacates that it a 1950 model and the cast dates are the letter T so it is deffintly a 50. My question is they only made 16,000 or so md's durning its run. the engine serial number must coraspond with how many md engines engines were made? I belive there were only a thousand or so md's made after mine. But you cannot go by the serial number on the engine as it would be a 39 or 40 if you used the M serial number chart. so there must be a diffrent chart to tell when the engine was made without using cast codes. I'm just wondering if i got the right idea?

i know for a fact the code letter T is for 1950. they never used the letter V and in 51 they use i think 2 or three letters. I have a book by guy fay that list all the letter codes and years

I could be wrong, but isn't a T casting code a '48. If a Z is '54, then working backwards would make a T a '48. Or did they skip some letters?

Think 1941 was first year for regular production MD, also more than 16000 made. Engine # you have sounds okay for a 1950 tractor. couple of numbers from later tractors than the one you have just for comparision. Tractor 285266, engine 18772, tractor 285597 engine, 21606. You can see engine numbers can't be compared very close to tractor numbers.

Hello D Slater: Yes 1941 was the start of regular production. In fact it was March 1941 when the first 6 MD's were shipped to Des Moines Iowa. Dad and his local dealer went down there and got one since he had placed an order when the first gas M's came out. The cost was quite high compaired to the gas M. About 50 percent more for diesel. It payed off since diesel was easier to get and cheaper all during WW2 and ours was worked hard it's first 10 years. Agpilot
