3 point lift on Farmall C

I saw a Farmall Super C on Ebay with a really slick 3 point hitch set-up. It used two flat links, hooked to the right and left lift arms fwd of the steering support, bent to clear around the operators platform. It looked liked the rear lift (rock shaft?) tube was replaced with an shaft that had a top link attach point and that allowed both sides to mount adjustable links to attach the lower lift arms to. I asked the seller who made the lift but he didn't know. He said he bought the tractor with it already installed in IA. It was painted black...

I've been looking at making a lift myself, but the hurdle is the rear lift shaft and how to make it where I can attach the connecting links, plus add the center link point. My other thought is finding a "fast hitch" from a later tractor, but I haven't done my research yet to see if that is feasible to try that.

I would probably pay money for one just like the one I saw, but I need to figure out who made it. Anybody else see that tractor? I still have the link to the auction, but it is closed now. Anybody know of a good "factory" looking lift?

I would like to find more uses for the C other than the occasional wagon or manure spreader chore. (The C's destined to be my "show" tractor... ) Having 3 point I could then use the current hay rake I own and maybe my back blade.

I have the Saginaw 3 point hitch on my Super C and have been very impressed with it. I like theirs because it has its own hydraulic cylinder which leaves the touch control for the mounted cultivators. The one modification that I subsequently made was to replace the supplied single spool valve with a two spool valve and then added a hydraulic top link which makes the 3 point even that much more useful for things like blade, landscape rake, and dirt scoop. I mounted the valve to the side of the tool box under the seat which puts the levers right under my right leg / bum which is much more convenient than on the steering column as it is easier to be looking over my right shoulder at what is behind me and still be able to easily adjust the hydraulics.

I would recommend this setup for anyone that wants to make their C / Super C more useful.

You are better off using one that has it's own cylinder, they are more efficient than those that use the rockshaft. Saginaw=cylinder, Worksaver=rockshaft.

Rexalot,

The 3PT conversions are usually either from Saginaw County Tractor, or Worksaver. Both have websites.

Rex: I have photo of 3 point a guy built for his C. On the top link he removed the belt pulley and fabricated a cover which incorperated top link hookup. His lower links were new Ford Fergie replacments from a farm store. He drilled holes in side of drawbar for mounting lower links. His rear rockshaft was a C plow lift.

I've done a fair bit of building 3 point hitches for SA, 100, 130 and 140. To make a hitch that works well on inground implements like plows, disks, etc., the lower links must be straight and they must attach to tractor 30% closer together than at the implement. This is what allows one to make steering corrections while implement is in the ground. I've done a fair bit of expermenting, pulling plows and disks. You've got to build it close to Ferguson's specs, he did have it right.

Just about any type of a 3 point hitch will work on mowers, rakes, etc. If you'd like to see that photo, send me an e mail. I know it's shown with a rear blade attached.

Thanks for the info guys.

I already have lower links for a Ford and connecting links from a farm store that we used on a 3pt lift built to go on a 1948 MM UTU using the cultivator lift cyclinder. While that one worked ok, it was close to the seat and wasn't practical in the sense it got in the way of being able to use the "platform" (stand and drive) and with the hand clutch I like to do that at times.

My C has the lift or rockshaft for the 2 bottom plow on it now, so I was eyeballing it, and I like your friend has done with the drawbar, someone has installed longer bolts in mine where it attaches that make me think there's a place to hook the lower links to.

I can visualize it, but if I do it I want it to be "right" and work correctly. (Not to mention safely.) I'd like to see the picture... for inspiration.

After looking at the worksaver website I would have to conclude it was their product on the tractor...

Saginaw doesn't offer a kit.
