Im working on someones "A".. It had a blown head gasket and I replaced it. I didn't see any cracks any where and everything look real well. Got it back together and it runs nice however it over heats pretty fast. I thought there may have been a air pocket so i drained it a few times and put the antifreeze back in. still have the problem..Any Idea on why this may be? And Yes the rad was cleaned out very well. Thanks!

How hot is too hot? I have A using for 15 years. Purty darn hot runner. Can't keep your hand on radiator. Was told to use water not antifreeze in summer and keep belt tight. No water pump. Added electric fan as supplement. Maybe little cooler. Late timing can make cars run hot, I guess tractor, too. Never boils. But I have cub and is hardly ever warm at all.

Well it seems taht the block is full of junk and I'm trying to get it all out. It gets HOT fast!! You can hear it boil in the rad. Someone put a Temp guage on it at one time and its maxed out with in 10 minutes.

Cheack the timing of the tractor because some times if the tractor is out of time it causes the tractor to overheat faster, I also have an A farmall and mine was doing the same thing so I adjusted the timing and it cleared the missing and overheating.

I would bet the problem is as Gene suggested. When I did an A it was loaded with dirt and crud around those sleeves. I had the sleeves out, so I steam cleaned the block. That's a good area for a leak too is around those seals on the sleeves.
If the sleeves are ever pulled that block area needs to be cleaned very well. Hal

Rember when you get it to stay cool and you done flushing/cleaning out the block/radiator it is best to fill it back up with DISTILLED water, as our water has alot of dissolved solids that over time will cause problumes with salt, calcium, and other gunk will make the radaitor more and more unefficent. I think it is worth .63 cents a gallon to keep the radaitor nice and clean.

I agree with Gene, a good flush with vinagar a couple times will problaby help. Most likely have a bunch of rust and other crud clogging the system up in the block. It make take 2 or 3 flushes to get it all out and if you can back flush it with water also. I hook into the block drain and let the water flow for a couple hours after doing the vinagar

Remove the radiator then take off the lower housing and back flush the block. There are 4 holes that let the coolant down by the sleeves about the sixe of a nickle when you remove the lower housing you will be able to see in the block and you will get lots of crud by back flushing not uncommon for these blocks to be plugged after all they are only 50plus yrs old and we do have bad water. You mite get by by filling with vinegar after you drain the coolant out and letting it warm up and set for a while but you will find the bottom area of the water passage having crud an mite have some of the holes plugged

Are you sure you got the right gasket on it. If it is for a 123 and water pump the water passages are smaller in the gasket.
