Being relatively tall, I am tired of getting the exhaust in my face. I have seen a MF with the long automotive type exhaust coming out the side, but I am looking for some sort of design for the vertical muffler on my Farmall C that will deflect down and out of my face.

I think that a manifold off of a 504 farmall will fit your C. They have two places for exhaust outlet. One is for vertical exhaust, the other for underneath.

Hot air rises. If you deflect the exhaust down, it will only make things worse because the smoke will hang around that much longer.

Extend the pipe upwards.

SDP: You really haven't said what you use the tractor for. Yes, I agree with gene if you are working around orchards, ornamental trees, etc.

If however your working out in open spaces, go for a longer pipe. The C would be a bit different but Utility type tractors just put the operator in a pit of fumes. Underslung exhausts were a big item in the 50s and 60s, however for the most part they are a thing of the past. Work place safety demanded it. There have also been countless fires started by underslung exhausts.

Get it over your head, these tractor aren't driving away from those fumes with the same velosity as your car.

Right now it's just joy-rides to shows. I would like to mow lawns and push snow with it later.

SDP: Basically what ended the horizontal exhaust on tractors was up keep and the fires they started on the ground. Fires were particularly bad in hay making operations. Heat was another factor, MF had that pipe under the left floor board and it almost fried ones left foot. On utility type tractor with fenders it created a hot operators platform, and suprisingly it didn't get rid of fumes.

The C is a rather unique situation as the operator is higher in relation to the hood than all other Farmalls, thus it takes a long pipe to put the fumes above you. Your going to swear at the upright exhaust on a C if you start mowing around ornamental trees. If you do put an exhaust out under a C axle, at least you wont be as close to it as on utilities.

I knows what you mean. My mowers have a pipe with two 90deg bends so they will clear the limbs and noise and also the fumes. Quick fix would be to replace the pipe coming out of the manifold get a nipple with threads on both ends then using a short nipple and two 90s and another one long enough to fasten the muffler to the point it down will be quiet no fumes and you will like it. Use 1 1/2 pipe easy to get at any big box LOWES,HOME DEPO or other store. Dealer has mufflers with a bbaffle that will make it super quiet.
