1953 Super C
Is there anyway that HYD system oil can get back in to the engine oil? I seem to be loosing HYD system oil faster than I can find where it is coming from I rebuilt the auxiliary control valve a little while a go and that helped (but I could see that leak). I'm leaking around the rear lift cylinder a little but not as fast as the oil disappears. and if it is internal to the pump how much of that cluster has to come apart to stop it. It is 50 + miles one way to the Case IH dealer for parts and if it isn't newer than 1990 they are lost most of the time.

Thank you for your help
Larry

The o-ring is generic, cost maybe a quarter, speedi sleeve about $25 at any bearing supply place, maybe even NAPA if you can explain it to them. But, the hole that the shaft goes through has to be enlarged to accept the sleeve, best to have a machine shop do it, you are still at less than $100. If the shaft is not worn too much, the o-ring alone may do it, but I can't promise that.

stupid me if the oil comes out the pet-cock I haven't been checking to see if I have to much up tell now and so I will have to run it some tomorrow to check that I wish I had thought of this sooner but didn't I guess my next question should be what has or will it hurt to run with to much oil in the engine?

larry u dont wannt run the engine with hydraulic oil as a lubricant. Most hydraulic oils and hytran are like 10w viscosity. Your engine is probably running 30w. Besides having lower then noraml pressure with thinner oil, you also dont get proper lubrication.

Over the years i have replaced seals on these pumps that have leaked into the crankcase but never seen any engine failure.

you would be right except that this tractor since new has used regular oil in the HYD stem like the oil book called for but I still wonder what to much will hurt or not hurt Larry

The seal on your hydraulic pump is leaking the hydraulic oil into your enngine. It may have worn a groove into the shaft and will require a speedi-sleeve so the new seal has a new surface to rub on. You may be able to get the speedi-sleeve from your local Napa store. Case/IH may have them too and you will probably need a pump kit too. Hal
PS: Pesco parts breakdown list attached.

El Toro Thanks for the parts break down it is a lot better than the one in the IT Manual
El Toro you talked about a speedi-sleeve so the new seal has a new surface to rub on. you are referring to the drive shaft seal? With out tearing mine apart is there anything else that might not be in the kit that I will need. I hate to tear it down before finding out if they have what I need and then be down a week or more and at gas prices one trip is one to many. Thanks again for your help

That shaft is No11 and the seal is No4 in that parts breakdown. Those old seals get hard from age and then start wearing that shaft.

I don't know what's available for parts. If you need to talk to someone with Case/IH you can call
1-800-732-0017 and ask for farm tractor parts.
They're in PA and have 4 dealerships. Two in PA and 2 in DE. They know what's available and you can have the parts drop shipped. Your local dealer can probably do this too. Hal

Isn't the hydraulic pump mounted into the timing geartrain? If so, the pump's shaft seal may be leaking into the timing gears and then draining into the crankcase.
Is the crankcase oil level increasing as the hydraulics go down?
